Things That You Must Never Do With Your RV

Occasional RVers who keep their RVs in storage for extended periods of time have a habit of using their RVers for things that they aren’t actually designed for. They may turn the RV into some kind of storage or a vocational space, and consider RVs to be the extra inch they always needed in their home.

While there can be limitless inappropriate uses for an RV, in this article we have decided to highlight some of the most common ones and why they should be avoided.

Use it as Storage

Some RVers think that they can use their RV for storing all sorts of junk when it is not in use. RVs are not designed as storage spaces, therefore must never be used for such a purpose. RVs have a certain capacity for load, and if that is exceeded, then it may weaken the frame and the tires.

Even if the storage is lightweight, it is still a problem. It could hinder the air flow leading to mold and insect infestation. All this could weaken the foundation of the RV leading to expensive repairs later on.

Storing gasoline or other chemicals is one of the worst mistakes that Rvers can make. It can not only leave a permanent smell in the vehicle, but can cause damage too. The chemicals could become unstable because of the conditions, and seep through the containers.

Using it as a Home Kitchen

Sure RVs come with kitchens that can be sued for cooking meals, but RVers should use it with common sense. It is not the same as a home kitchen, which is why things that produce a lot of smell, like fish or cabbage shouldn’t be cooked in it. The smell of these things tends to linger in the fabric of the walls and the floors.

RVers should open all the windows and use the exhaustion to let the smell out after cooking and be careful not to cook anything that may leave behind odor.

Using it as A Kids Play Area

When an RV is not in use, children may be compelled to use it as their play area. Children generally like RVs, as much as they do tree houses and forts. They would be tempted to play camping when they see it parked in the driveway.

This could prove to be a problem as RV has many things that can kill them, such as propane gas, parking brakes if released and electrical wires. RVs should never be used by children unsupervised, which is why RVers should keep their RVs locked if they have children in homes, or consider storing their RVs in a place other than home.

Using it as a Dog House

While taking your pets along in an RV is not a big problem, using the RV as a dog house is. It could leave a permanent smell inside the RV, which could create lots of problem when the RVer goes on to sell the RV. Dog food can also attract rodents and insects into the RV, leading to a full-scale infestation in the future.
