Maintaining Hygiene on the Road—Tips for RVers

Maintaining hygiene is important on a daily basis, but can become quite difficult while travelling. Scarce water and inadequate supply of personal care products can make simple tasks, like washing your hand and brushing your teeth, quite difficult.

If you are planning an RV trip any time soon, here are a few tips to help you maintain your personal hygiene:

While Packing…

Your personal hygiene begins while you are packing for your journey. There are certain things you need with you that will help you maintain cleanliness. Here are certain things you must be on your checklist:

Oral Hygiene

A toothpaste, toothbrush and mouthwash are things that are included in oral hygiene products. It is common for people to ignore oral hygiene, leaving them with gum diseases, which could worsen over time.

Skin Care

The list of skin care products you should always carry with you during camping include:

  • Soap
  • Unscented shampoo
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Body wipes
  • Sun block

Clothing

Pack clothes in a way that you do not have to re-wear any clothing item during the trip. Wearing fresh clothing items every day will not only keep you clean, it will make you feel good.

If it is difficult to pack so many clothes, make adequate arrangements for laundry, by keeping extra water and detergents.

First Aid

To prevent yourself and your family members from any infection, carry a first aid box. Since camping involves a lot of adventure, cuts and wounds are common. You need proper medication for disinfection.

On the Road…

Hand washing

Unclean hands are one of the leading causes of illnesses. Wash your hands before and after meal, after using the toilet, after touching an animal and public property.

Use your hand sanitizer if water is scarce in the campsite.

Shower

Take a shower daily at night rather than in the morning. This removes all the dirt from the body that you may have accumulated in the campsite.

If water is an issue, use body wipes to get your body clean before going to sleep.

Nails

Keeping long nails clean is often a problem while camping, because there is a greater chance of the dirt getting into them. Cut your nails short to keep your hands completely clean from bacteria and germs.

Drink plenty of water

Drink plenty of water on the road to stay hydrated and to keep your internal system clean. Drink 8 glasses of water daily, which will continuously flush your system and prevent you from getting sick.
