Avoid These Common Mistakes When Going For An RV Trip

As with any other camping trip, RV trips are best when they are planned thoroughly. While spontaneity is one thing, it doesn't make any sense to go on a trip without preparation.

We have gathered some of the common rookie mistakes that RVers usually make and how you could avoid doing them:

Not making a pre-departure checklist

You must have a pre-departure checklist before embarking on your journey. There isn't a universal checklist that all RVers can use. The checklist will be according to your requirement; you can add and remove items from it.

The checklist will contain the list of things that you must keep and the things that you must ensure are in a working condition.

You may not realize it, but this checklist will bring you a lot of convenience in the entire journey.

Not booking campsites

Most first time RVers think that they can just drive into any campsite they want, without any prior booking.

The thing is all the good ones get booked months before the start of the season. If you don't book a spot on a campsite, you will either have to settle for a substandard campsite, or park your RV in an unsafe location elsewhere.

The booking for summer must have already started, and if you want to go to good campsites, which have a lot of amenities and activities, start booking your spots now.

Driving off while connected

Before departing on your journey, you must take a look around to ensure that your RV isn't connected to any water or power line.

This is a common mistake, and can even become disastrous. The same goes for slide outs and wheel chocks. Take a good look around before driving off, and try to cultivate this good habit every time you get in your RV for driving off.

Not learning how to work the mirrors

RVs are big vehicles, so it becomes increasingly difficult to park them. This is where your skill of working the mirrors come in. There are several blind spots in an RV, so you must get enough practice of working the mirrors to get parking right, and ensure safety while driving.
